“They ever ask you "Where you from?" Like, "Where you really from?"
The question seems simple but the answer's kinda long…” - Riz Ahmed, WHERE YOU FROM?
Now Come To Where I’m From (2010)
COME TO WHERE I’M FROM is a national project by Paines Plough that invites playwrights to write and perform mini plays about their home towns.
Since 2010 more than 180 playwrights from across the UK have written plays about the places that shaped them. Together these plays make up a theatrical tapestry of the nation – a playwrights’ guide to Great Britain.
Sudha’s contribution from 2016, ‘Warzone Wimbledon’ explores her complex relationship with setting down roots in a Victorian terrace in SW19 after a turbulent childhood in Africa, India, Norfolk, and London.
Now all those audio plays are available to listen to at Paines Plough’s COME TO WHERE I’M FROM free app. You can explore Leeds with Zodwa Nyoni, walk the streets of Liverpool with Helen Blakeman, hear James Graham’s tales of Mansfield, Mike Bartlett and Alice Birch on Oxford, Zia Ahmed on Cricklewood and lots, lots more.
