In an unexpected blast from the past, Audible is launching Series 1 and 2 of GIRLIES on Halloween!co-written by Sudha Bhuchar and Shaheen Khan nearly 30 years ago, and it ran to 3 series.

We wrote it for ourselves to be in two of the lead roles and to address the lack of narratives fromcreatives like us! Inspired by real people, Girlies is a joyous exploration of friendship, family, work and womanhood and follows the hilarious ups and downs of five 30-something Asian women living in Wimbledon in the 1990s.

Tula, Vinny, Jabeen, Sonal and Samina are best friends since school and are united by the choices they made as adults to marry outside their communities. They meet for ‘Girlies’ nights when they laugh, cry and inevitably over share!

In exploring this ‘lived multiculturism’ we were ahead of the curve! Our efforts to get it on TV was knocked back as were our more recent pitches to write the women again in their fifties and now sixties! Here’s to the Audible launch and fresh interest!
